About Wagtail Yarns
Our photo tells the story of a working Angora goat farm, where mohair is shorn and worsted spun either pure or blended with the finest merino wool into yarns for the hand and machine knitter. Dyed on site to produce the most beautiful vibrant lustrous shades, then made into our range of products.
From the first Angora goat purchased in 1979, we have developed a herd of 1400 quality Angora goats. The herd combines the best qualities of Australian, Texan and South African mohair.
After attempts at having our fibre spun elsewhere before knitting it ourselves we concluded that to have any sort of quality we needed to do the processing ourselves. In 1995 we purchased worsted spinning machinery from around the world and brought it to our farm at Childers, Queensland.
Today we wash, dye, spin and knit mohair based products on the farm. We have complete control over what we produce, and we also have the flexibility to change products. |

We are a team of three where a week can mean that we will be shearing, washing, dyeing, spinning and then knitting. On the remaining days in the week we can catch on everything from fencing to paperwork. Or in the case of Kevin (right) its a case of trying out the product you just knitted.
